Creating a Digital Mood Board

By far the best money I have spent this year was $120 odd on a one year package for one on one tutorials with my local Apple Store. I am a big mac girl, pardon the pun! I am mac from eyeliner to phone to laptop. I wanted to take my business to new heights and knew that needed me to go to new heights in what could be achieved through the technology available to me.

The information I was gaining from each tutorial had them fast becoming the favourite appointment of my week. One of the big things I wanted to achieve was the ability to create digital mood boards so I could gather images of ACTUAL design pieces that were available to clients to purchase and place them together so the client could clearly get a feel for the style direction. In addition I wanted to be able to manipulate the mood board to place the images on backgrounds that would mimick wall colours and floor coverings....

I started with the free trial of IWORK and was hooked on both Pages and Numbers programs. I use Pages for my mood boards, bringing in actual stock images from websites or photos I have. I start by creating a canvas with colours to show the wall and floor colours/materials. I use the alpha tool to take away the background of the image which results in a more 3D appearance for the room, as demonstrated in the above board.

This program is great whether you want to go as advanced as the one above or just drag images on a page and get a feel for how they all look in the same space. Highly recommend Pages for mood boards of any kind.
